My Summer Internship at HWS: A Journey of Innovation and Achievement

Introduction

This summer, I had the privilege of interning at HWS, where I embarked on a journey of innovation and exploration in the gas and oil industry. Working under the guidance of diligent mentors, I was given the freedom to pursue ambitious projects and make significant progress in this fascinating field.

Empowering Automation

One of the highlights of my internship was the opportunity to automate crucial procedures within the industry. By developing cutting-edge software, I was able to streamline data collection, casing collar locator (CCL) detection, and pass matching. This software marked a groundbreaking achievement as it had never been done before.

Designing an Automatic CCL Software

One of the significant milestones of my internship was the design and development of the first-ever automatic software for Casing Collar Locator (CCL) detection and matching. I harnessed the power of Python, Node-RED, and the QT framework to create a solution that would transform operations in the gas and oil industry.

Enhanced Data Acquisition

To ensure the utmost accuracy in data acquisition, I adapted new LabJack T7 hardware. This innovation significantly improved the acquisition system’s accuracy, allowing for a staggering 2000 scans per second on streaming channels. This enhancement was instrumental in optimizing our operations and making them more efficient.

User-Friendly Interface

A critical aspect of my work was making the technology accessible. I added a Graphical User Interface (GUI) using the tkinter framework, making the software user-friendly and ensuring that it could be easily utilized by industry professionals.

Real-World Testing

To validate our innovations, we conducted rigorous testing in the field. Our software was put to the test, proving its capabilities under real-world conditions. We successfully tested it at depths of up to 30,000 feet in a gas well, further demonstrating its reliability and effectiveness.

Gratitude

I am immensely grateful for the guidance and mentorship provided by Manuel Avitia. His support was instrumental in my journey of learning and innovation.

A Return Offer

I am honored and excited to share that I have been offered a return opportunity at HWS. This experience has been invaluable, and I look forward to continuing my contributions to the company’s mission.

In conclusion, my summer internship at HWS was a remarkable experience. It was a journey filled with innovation, achievement, and the realization that the potential for progress in the gas and oil industry is limitless. I am excited about the future and the opportunities it holds.
